Dookie’s Awards & Nominations

September 1994: The video for “Longview” was nominated for 3 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Group Video, Best New Artist, and Best Alternative Video.
January 1995: Green Day were nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Artist.
March 1995: Green Day won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance (Dookie) and was nominated for Best New Artist, Best Hard Rock Performance (“Longview”), and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group (“Basket Case”).
March 1995: The Bay Area Music Awards were given out March 11, 1995 at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. Green Day won the award for Outstanding Album, Outstanding Bassist, Outstanding Drummer, and Outstanding Group.
September 1995: The video for “Basket Case” was nominated for 9 MTV Video Music Awards including Video of the Year, Best Group Video, Best Hard Rock Video, Best Alternative Video, Breakthrough Video, Best Direction, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Viewer’s Choice.

Insomniac’s Awards & Nominations

January 1996: Green Day were nominated for 3 American Music Awards for Favorite Artist of the Year, Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Artist, and Favorite Alternative Artist.
September 1996: Green Day’s video for “Walking Contradiction” was nominated for a MTV Video Music Award for Best Special Effects.
January 1997: Green Day were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Music Video, Short Form (“Walking Contradiction”).

Nimrod’s Awards & Nominations

January 1998: Green Day were nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Artist.
September 1998: Green Day won a MTV Video Music Award for Best Alternative Video (“Time Of Your Life (Good Riddance).”
January 1999: Green Day were nominated for an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Artist.
June 1999: Green Day were nominated for a MTV Movie Award for Best Song (“Nice Guys Finish Last”).

Warning’s Awards & Nominations

Febuary 2000: Green Day were nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance (“Espionage”).
2001: Green Day blew away all competition in the 2001 California Music Awards (formerly the Bammies.) They won 8 statuettes: Outstanding Album (Warning), Outstanding Punk Rock/Ska Album (Warning), Outstanding Group, Outstanding Male Vocalist, Outstanding Bassist, Outstanding Drummer, Outstanding Songwriter and Outstanding Artist for the group.

International Superhits and Shenanigans Awards & Nominations

August 2001: Green Day won Kerrang’s Award for Classic Songwriter. All together, they were nominated for 3 awards; Classic Songwriter which they won, Best International Live Act (lost to Papa Roach), & Best Band in the World (lost to Slipknot).
2002: Green Day won Outstanding Group at the California Music Awards.
May 2003: Green Day won 4 California Music Awards. They are Outstanding Group, Artist of the Year, Best Guitarist (Billie Joe), and the “Spirit of Rock” award.

American Idiot’s Awards & Nominations

December 2004: Green Day wins the award for best song in a video game. “American Idiot” appeared in the Madden NFL 2005 game at the Spike TV 2004 Video Game Awards.
2005: Green Day are nominated for “Best International Group” at the 2005 Brits Awards in the UK. They lost to the Sissor Sisters.
Febuary 2005: Green Day won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album (American Idiot) and were nominated for Album of the Year (American Idiot), Record of the Year, Best Rock Song (awarded to the songwriter), Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, and Best Music Video, Short Form (“American Idiot”). Green Day also performed at the ceremony.
April 2005: Green Day won an award Favorite Band/Group at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.
April 2005: Green Day win a canadian Juno award for Best International Album of the Year.
August 2005: The video for “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” won 6 MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year, Best Group Video, Best Rock Video, Best Direction (Samuel Bayer), Best Cinematography (Samuel Bayer), and Best Editing (Tim Royes). The video for “American Idiot” won for Viewer’s Choice and was nominated for Best Art Direction. Green Day also performed at the ceremony.
November 2005: Green Day won 2 MTV Europe Awards for Best Album and Best Rock Group.
November 2005: Green Day won 2 American Music Awards for Favorite Pop/Rock Album (American Idiot) and Favorite Alternative Artist, and was nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group and Artist of the Year.
Febuary 2006: Green Day won a Grammy Award for Record of the Year (“Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”).
Febuary 2006: Green Day won 2 Brit Awards for Best International Group and Best International Album (American Idiot).
March 2006: San Francisco Chapter of The Recording Academy honor Green Day in a ceremony for those “Whose Talents and Accomplishments Have Crossed All Boundaries to Make an Enduring, Positive Impact on the Music Community”.
April 2006: Green Day won 2 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Music Group and Favorite Song (“Wake Me Up When September Ends”).
May 2006: Green Day won Best Album for the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards on May 25th.
May 2006: ASCAP Honor Awards – Green Day and Annie Lennox where honored (article). Green Day got honored with the Creative Voice Award as well as for Song of the Year, Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
May 2006: Green Day won one of two awards they were up for at this years MTV Asia Awards. They won ‘Favorite Rock Act’ but lost the Favorite Video award to Korn’s video for “Twisted Transistor”.
June 2006: Green Day won ‘Best International Group’ at the MuchMusic Video Awards.
